A podcast for caregivers figuring it out

Caregiving is hard. You don't have to do it alone.

Sisters Alana and Darah talk honestly about caregiving, grief, family, and everything that comes with caring for someone you love. It is for young and young-at-heart caregivers who feel overwhelmed, unprepared, or not quite grown enough for the moment and keep asking: where's the adult!?

TWO SISTERS. ONE VERY REAL JOURNEY.

Nobody handed us a handbook. Trust us, we looked.

Caregiving did not start with some big announcement. Our grandma had a brain bleed, and suddenly we were learning hospitals, rehab, insurance, and how to speak up when something did not feel right. We still had jobs, families, health stuff of our own, and lives that did not politely pause. We kept waiting for a real adult to take over. Apparently, that was us.

Then 2022 happened. Our mom was in the hospital for months. Our grandma was in the hospital too. Our dad's memory was getting worse, even though he had no idea it was happening. Visitor limits meant moving between hospital rooms, leaning on our people to keep eyes on our dad, and trying to make decisions we never imagined we would have to make.

We asked for help, which is not exactly our strong suit. Some days we were making calls, asking questions, and holding everybody together. Other days we were just trying to keep everyone breathing, including ourselves. There was grief, paperwork, parking fees, family group chats, and enough ridiculous moments to remind us that sometimes you really do have to laugh.

Our mom and our grandma are gone now. We are still walking this road with our dad, who has Alzheimer's. This podcast grew out of everything we lived, learned, and wish someone had told us sooner. It is the conversation we had with each other while we were trying to figure it all out. Now we are having that conversation out loud for every caregiver who has ever thought, “I love these people, but who put me in charge?”

MEET THE ADULTS WE KNOW

The Adults We Know

Season 2 is about the adults we have met along the way. Caregivers, people who know how the system works, and everyday folks with something real to share. We will add them here one at a time as their episodes go live.

SEASON 2

One adult at a time.

When a Season 2 episode goes live, we will introduce you to that adult here and share where to find them, what they know, and the resources they trust.

KEEP THIS IN YOUR CAREGIVER TOOLBOX

A little help for the next hard day.

Quick reminders for the days when your brain has too many tabs open. Open a card and take what helps.

01The 60-second self check-in

Take one minute and ask: How am I doing? What do I need right now? What can wait? Who can I call? Pick one small thing you can do for yourself today.

02Before the next appointment

Bring an up-to-date medicine list. Write down anything that has changed, including sleep, eating, walking, mood, or pain. Put your three biggest questions at the top so they do not get lost.

03How to ask your crew for help

Make the request specific: “Can you sit with my dad Tuesday from 2–4?” or “Can you handle one grocery delivery this week?” Clear asks are easier to answer.
